In your own words, what is your book about? If you were not the author and trying to explain this awesome book you just read to a friend, what would you say about it? 
 The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Bella Swann is an erotic reinterpretation of the traditional fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. There is dubious consent with submissive females and dominant males within my story as well as moderate BDSM. However, I don’t write extreme BDSM because my target audience definitely is more comfortable with moderate BDSM as part of their sexual fantasies. I was influenced when I was younger by Anne Rice’s The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, but her story begins when Beauty wakes up and involves a lot more pain for the characters than I am comfortable writing. I also wanted to write a more fantasy-based fairy tale of what Beauty’s life was like before she was put to sleep for a 100 years. Because I write erotica, I made her 21 years old so that she was over the age of consent and three days away from becoming Queen since I wanted her to be more mature than a 16-year old who is “pricked” by a spindle. Unfortunately for the powerful men of the Kingdom, Beauty is a headstrong young woman who can’t wait to take the reins of power but she does not really understand the responsibility that comes with being Queen. According to a magical Prophecy within the story, the Kingdom will only prosper if Beauty is a virgin when she becomes Queen. However, Beauty is exploring her own sexuality and is not “technically” a virgin because of her sexual exploits. She’s a spunky girl with a definite fondness for spunk. ;-) Thus, to be purified, Beauty will have to be put into a sleep for a 100 years. The Court Scholar and the Mage believe Beauty will wake up afterwards in a more submissive state of mind, ready to obey the rules of patriarchy and her Prince Charming who will become her King. Of course, in any sequel that I write, there is no guarantee that Beauty will wake up having been reborn as a sexual and political submissive. ;-)

What is your writing style? Do you follow all guides and rules? Synopsis, outline etc. or do you just sit down at the computer and type to see what happens. 
   I am an organized and analytical writer. I definitely try to do a little research on what I write on. For instance in this story, Beauty is fencing with her Warrior, Callum. I did look up proper fencing terms and moves in order to write that section. Of course, I then took many liberties with the facts in order to create a more erotic story. However, I do have an outline of what I want to happen in my story and definite ideas about endings and beginnings. I spend a significant amount of time thinking and planning the story out before I ever sit down at a computer to write it.

Have you ever written anything and thought; " The world has got to see this!" ? 
LOL. Yes, I think all writers feel that way about all of their writing. Sigh. If only the world could see what I have written, everyone would love it. I write many different types of erotic novellas because I feel if someone picks up just one of them, he or she will realize how great all of the stories are and then buy and read their way through all of them. Sigh again. Fantasies are the life's blood of every author. 

Do you have an editor and Cover Designer or do you do this yourself? 
 I edit my own work but I have a great cover designer – Melody Simmons at http://ebookindiecovers.com. She is really amazing and also did the eBook trailer promo for my erotica. 


Who is your favorite author. Not just someone that you read allot. I wanna know whose book you read that made you suddenly know that if you didn't do this for the rest of your life then you would never be happy. 
 That’s a tough question because I have wanted to be a writer my entire life. However, I think George Orwell’s 1984 andAnimal Farm are two of the books I read which blew me away with what they showed about how language, propaganda, and the power of the ruling class are intertwined. I would love to be able to write something that made that kind of impact on someone else that Orwell’s books made on me.


Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Because I write mainly paranormal erotica, I am always be challenged to come up with creative new ways for characters to have sex. It’s fun to imagine but I don’t want to use the same phrases or descriptions in every book since that would be too predictable for my readers. Variety is the spice of life in erotica.

Do you write your characters or do they write themselves through you? 
I do start off with an idea of who my characters are, but sometimes they refuse to be the people I thought they were. For instance, I had created the character of Rapunzel in The Claiming of Rapunzel in Xanadu a bit too submissive for her tastes. Then I had to go back and rewrite the beginning of the story because the submissive Rapunzel needed to be spunkier if she was going to run away from her tower and into the dangerous woods. I think by listening to my characters as they move through the story, I create a better story overall.

Do you ever write yourself into the characters? 
Bella blushes and then winks. I write erotica, Nicole, so that would be a bit too telling. I will say that my heroines may feel the desire to be sexually submissive, but that does not always mean they want to be submissive in all areas of their lives. They just enjoy the pleasure that comes with giving up control and allowing themselves to be the object of someone else’s attentions whether the more dominant partner is male or female or monster. The orgasms are always intense although sometimes the pleasure is intertwined with pain and some humiliation. However, the pleasure is always the strongest element of my heroine’s “happy” ending.

 Is writing your full time job or are you "Keeping your day job"? So to speak.
Writing is not my full-time job although like many writers, I dream of a time when all I have to do is write. I do have a day job that takes up a lot of my time and energy but I love it as well. I’m very lucky that I love both my day job and also get to be a writer.


 If you could go back in time and meet one famous person or legend in history, who would it be? 
First, I would love to meet Cleopatra because she managed to control or play off two of the most powerful men in Roman History, Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony in order to try and keep her power. However, I would also like to meet Zenobia of Palmyra because she conquered Egypt and went to war with Rome after her husband died and the Romans tried to annex her Kingdom. She was eventually defeated, taken back to Rome as a captive, but ended up marrying a Roman senator and perhaps having a happy life after all. I admire both of these women very much because they didn’t play by the rules of society but made their own.


 There are millions of new books released every year. What in your mind makes yours stand out from all those millions in your genre? 
Erotica is a tough genre to crack into and be successful because there are so many great erotica writers out there. However, I think my books stand out because I try to fill them with constant, non-stop hot action, so that the readers might need to take breathing breaks every chapter or they might reach their “happy ending” too early. I also strive to make my writing as hot, descriptive, and sensual as possible. I even deliberately choose covers for my erotica that are beautiful and sensual, but not sexually explicit. What’s beneath those covers is a sexually explicit, highly erotic story, but my reader never has to feel embarrassed if anyone sees the cover of the book he or she is reading. I am very proud of my erotica and I think my attention to detail in every aspect of my stories including the covers makes my books stand out from all the millions of new books released every year.

In the world of Indie, marketing is very difficult, especially if you don't have the funds to pay for it. Have you found a great free way to market your work that you think other Indies will benefit from? 
 I have a Facebook page and an Author page on Smashwords and Amazon but that’s about it. I recently joined Twitter where I have made connections with some reviewers and bloggers, but I haven’t done a lot of marketing for my books. I do have a YouTube trailer and I blog sometimes on Goodreads.com as well as review the books of other writers both erotica and non-erotica. I believe in helping out other Indie writers by buying and reviewing their work because I believe in karma and that the good we do will come back to us. However, the main thing I try to do is just keep writing and publishing my books so that there is a body of work that my readers can buy and read. I don’t want to be so caught up with marketing that I forget the most importatnt thing a writer should do is write.

Where do you create? 
I live in Washington, north of Seattle where is always grey.

In what genre do you write?
Romance

In your own words, what is your book about? If you were not the author and trying to explain this awesome book you just read to a friend, what would you say about it? 
Imagine a James Bond movie but from the perspective of the "Bond Girl", that is what HER SPY is. It is the story of how an every-woman meets and falls for a British super-spy and how her life is turned upside-down because of it. The book is filled with action, suspense, emotion and sex as Jessica finds herself falling in love with a spy.

 What is your writing style? Do you follow all guides and rules? Synopsis, outline etc. or do you just sit down at the computer and type to see what happens. 
This was my first attempt at a book. I have written a few short stories before just for fun so this was something very different for me. Honestly I am still trying to figure out what my writing style is. For HER SPY I came up with the idea, jotted down some notes for a story then started writing. I wrote the whole first quarter of the book before I stopped and figured out the rest of the plot and the ending. I wanted the character to feel real before I figured out the rest of the book. With a few more plot points to know where it was all going, I just started writing and let my heroin guide the rest of the process.

 Have you ever written anything and thought; " The world has got to see this!" ?
Honestly, no. I write for myself and a few friends and family. Would I like to have the world see my writings? Some of it, like HER SPY, but I try to write for myself and people like me for my own enjoyment and sanity. 

Do you have an editor and Cover Designer or do you do this yourself?
I do it all myself. I took a few journalism classes in college including copy editing. So while I am by no means a professional, I know what to look for. I also restructure as I go so by the time my second draft was done, the flow had been reworked and tweaked at least a dozen times.

9. Who is your favorite author. Not just someone that you read allot. I wanna know whose book you read that made you suddenly know that if you didn't do this for the rest of your life then you would never be happy.
Ursula K. LeGuin fits this description for me. I have read most of her work and a few of her books are ones I will read over and over again as long as I can. The book that really inspired me to start coming up with my own stories was "Tombs of Atuan". I loved the characters and the progression of the heroin. Her ability to take a simple setting and build a whole complex world outside of the tombs with rich, deep histories and cultures is simply inspiring. And the whole time she keeps the characters and their own personal journeys in the spotlight. 

 Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
The first stories I wrote were screenplays. With screenplays, a bulk of the content is dialogue and action - not descriptions. When I would write a scene, I would just put a simple descriptor like "a warehouse" or "a park", know that if it was ever filmed the directors, producers, and artists would provide the full details of the location. Same with the characters. Directors, producers and casting agents would decide what the characters looked like, not me. Writing a book really tested my patience when it came to the detail. All I wanted to do was get the lines and story going and so I had to (and still am in the process of) figure out a good way to work that does not disrupt my natural flow and still ends up being a book and not a script.

Do you write your characters or do they write themselves through you? 
I write them. Before I ever actually write anymore than a plot outline, I take a good few weeks to work through a character in my head. Then, I will try to take a whole day and think about my character on their most boring day; what they do, who they see, what they say, what they think, etc. If I can make it through the whole day without becoming bored of the character then I know I am ready to write their story.

Do you ever write yourself into the characters? 
I think a part of me is in all of my characters. I do look for inspiration in friends, family, history, etc. but ultimately I am the one creating the characters so I think a little part of me is in all my characters- even the villains!

Is writing your full time job or are you "Keeping your day job"? So to speak.
I have no plans to quit my job any time soon. I have too many bills that need to be paid and my cats are not going to go to the store and buy food to feed themselves!

If you could go back in time and meet one famous person or legend in history, who would it be? 
Jane Austen to just sit with her and talk about what love is.

There are millions of new books released every year. What in your mind makes yours stand out from all those millions in your genre? 
I wrote this book like it was an action movie for the romance audience. What does an action movie have to have that makes it a good movie? A solid plot, a relatable and believable character, and action! HER SPY is written to be an action/romance movie with a strong story, a very real heroin, and lots of action (both espionage action and bedroom action)!

 In the world of Indie, marketing is very difficult, especially if you don't have the funds to pay for it. Have you found a great free way to market your work that you think other Indies will benefit from?
Not yet, but I am trying to keep my eye out for a good way to spread the word about my book where I do not have to spend any money. I think that what you do with this author spotlight is a great way for me to share a little about myself and my book.

In what genre do you write?
Paranormal romance, with some LGBT in there

In your own words, what is your book about? If you were not the author and trying to explain this awesome book you just read to a friend, what would you say about it? 
The series follows the descendants of Jarel, the Black Dragon God and embodiment of black fire. He's also considered the father of the paranormal, he's the oldest of gods, and his children are either Dragon Gods (other forms of fire) or dragons. The series follows the children as they fight the forces of darkness, from the Titans to Lucifer, and attempt to settle down with their soul mates. It starts with one of his oldest children, Andreas, who loses his soul mate early in life and lives for millenia without him.

What is your writing style? Do you follow all guides and rules? Synopsis, outline etc. or do you just sit down at the computer and type to see what happens. 
I despise the idea of writing outlines. I don't like planning. I like to let the ideas sit and simmer in my brain, and when inspiration hits, I sit and put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard, depending on where I am when the inspiration hits.

Have you ever written anything and thought; " The world has got to see this!" ?
Never in those exact words. But as I wrote book five in this series, Relinquished Mercy, i got really excited to release it. I felt like fans would enjoy finally seeing some of their favorite characters from the earlier books get their happily ever after. 

Do you have an editor and Cover Designer or do you do this yourself? 
I've had a few different editors. Only one has stuck around and been dependable. I have several people to help with cover design. The cover of the first book, The Lost Dragon, was done by a friend while another friend did the rest of the series. My writing partner designed the book that's set to release later this year.

Who is your favorite author. Not just someone that you read allot. I wanna know whose book you read that made you suddenly know that if you didn't do this for the rest of your life then you would never be happy. 
Anne Rice, without a doubt. I loved the Vampire Chronicles and the Witches of Mayfair series. She had several standalone novels that were also just amazing, such as Ramses the Damned and Violin. She was perhaps my biggest inspiration to keep with my writing.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Certain characters drive me insane. It is really difficult not to force characters to do what I intended when I started, as they often branch off and do their own thing

Do you write your characters or do they write themselves through you? 
they write themselves through me. Each of my books never goes exactly how I planned when I started writing it. Characters that I intend to be mated decide they don't find each other that attractive, new mates come around. Two characters in particular spent four books trying to get together. It was maddening.

Do you ever write yourself into the characters? 
yes. There's always at least one character in each book that is a sarcastic smartass and that's just me. Sometimes I make characters that look like me, but with a little of how I would desire to look.

Is writing your full time job or are you "Keeping your day job"? So to speak.
Writing is a full time job, but i have a day job and I'm still in college too, working on my bachelor's degree in psychology. 

If you could go back in time and meet one famous person or legend in history, who would it be? 
Alexander the Great. I would just find it interesting to have a conversation with him about his thought processes.

There are millions of new books released every year. What in your mind makes yours stand out from all those millions in your genre? 
Generally, paranormal romance authors either right strictly hetero or strictly LGBT stories. My characters are different. Some are straight, some are bi, some are gay. The characters tell me what they are and I write them the way they want to be seen.

In the world of Indie, marketing is very difficult, especially if you don't have the funds to pay for it. Have you found a great free way to market your work that you think other Indies will benefit from? 
bloggers are an indie author's best friend. generally, I get most of my marketing through facebook events and through bloggers. Often I exchange shares with a fellow author who blogs and we help each other market a bit.

The Title of Your Work:

Where are you from? 
I grew up in Barking, a suburb of East London, spent some time in Israel and New York, and somehow ended up in St. Louis, MO, where I live my husband, two kids and the real boss of the house, my kitty, Miri Billie Joe.

In what genre do you write?
My main series is fantasy, but I also enjoy writing short stories and in those dabble in many different genres.

In your own words, what is your book about? If you were not the author and trying to explain this awesome book you just read to a friend, what would you say about it?
P.A.W.S. is the story of Miri, a young Jewish-American girl who is given a silver cat charm by her grandmother the night before she dies. Little does she know but the charm holds a family secret and that secret is a special kind of magic, that will help Miri and lead her into a world that she never knew existed. 

What is your writing style? Do you follow all guides and rules? Synopsis, outline etc. or do you just sit down at the computer and type to see what happens. 
The idea for P.A.W.S. came to me in a flash. I clearly saw Miri receiving her charm and understood her story. I wrote a few notes in a notebook and then sat down to write the book during National Novel Writing Month in November 2012. By the end of the month I had completed the first draft of my novel, but it took many more months and edits before it was ready for publication.
P.A.W.S. is the first of a series – a series that covers many characters, time periods, and locations. While the first book was written with little preparation, I discovered when I sat down to write the second book that I needed to take a step back and create a timeline and a character list that I could refer to as I write.

Have you ever written anything and thought; “The world has got to see this!" ?
I’ve been writing all my life, but only in the last few years plucked up the courage to show my work to others. Now I’ve taken the plunge I’ve discovered I enjoy sharing, and particular enjoy reading aloud to others from my book and stories. In addition to P.A.W.S. which of course I hope the world will read, I also wish that more people would read my memoir, The Big C, which is included in the charity anthology, Shades of Fear. The Big C was probably the most difficult thing I’ve written as it deals with the very real fear I felt when I was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago. At the time I didn’t tell many people outside of my immediate family, but now that I’m cancer free I hope my story will help others who might be going through the same experience.


 Do you have an editor and Cover Designer or do you do this yourself? 
I’m published with a small local press, Rocking Horse Publishing. They handle the editing and cover design.

Who is your favorite author. Not just someone that you read allot. I wanna know whose book you read that made you suddenly know that if you didn't do this for the rest of your life then you would never be happy. 
I have three - Douglas Adams, J.K. Rowling, and Terry Pratchett. The third book of the Harry Potter series, The Prisoner of Azkaban was probably the biggest influence on my writing. It was this book that Rowling introduces the idea of the animagus. I was fascinated by the idea of a witch or wizard who could turn themselves into an animal. I wanted to know more, wanted to understand the process by which they learned to change, and how that change felt. It was those thoughts that led me to P.A.W.S. and the different kinds of shapeshifters that live in its Institutes.  

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
My main problem is distraction, either from the internet (I sometimes force myself to finish my day’s writing before I let myself go on Facebook), or from my family (I have two kids who always seem to need something whenever I sit down to write!).

Do you write your characters or do they write themselves through you? 
They write themselves for sure. That’s particularly true of my villain, Alistair. He wasn’t even in my original idea for P.A.W.S., but a few chapters in, he insinuated himself and made the story all about him!

Do you ever write yourself into the characters? 
I think all writers do this – every character I write has a little of me in them, and I often draw on my personal experiences when I write. For example, in Argentum (the second book in the P.A.W.S. series, that will be published sometime later this year), my characters take a Greyhound trip across the country and stop in Indianapolis in the middle of the night; I remembered doing exactly this when I was a student traveling around America and remembered the eerie quietness of walking around a floodlit, totally empty, business district.

Is writing your full time job or are you "Keeping your day job"? So to speak.
My fiction writing is half my day job. The rest of the time I write word puzzles for magazines and my website, Paws4Puzzles. I’m very lucky that I’m able to work for myself at home.

If you could go back in time and meet one famous person or legend in history, who would it be? 
I would love to have met Douglas Adams (the author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy). He’s my all-time favorite writer who was lost to the world far too early.

There are millions of new books released every year. What in your mind makes yours stand out from all those millions in your genre?
P.A.W.S. blends fantasy with history, tradition and humor. While the first book is predominantly Miri’s story, it doesn’t focus merely on Miri and explores the motivations of many characters including the adult characters in the book. In this way it has crossover appeal and has been enjoyed by teens and adults alike. 

In the world of Indie, marketing is very difficult, especially if you don't have the funds to pay for it. Have you found a great free way to market your work that you think other Indies will benefit from? 
My advice would be to take the focus away from you. In addition to P.A.W.S. I’ve been involved in several anthology projects, three (Flash It!, Fauxpocalypse, and Shades of Fear) which are already out and several more (including Sins of the Past and Heroes & Villians) which will be out in the near future. For Fauxpocalypse and Shades of Fear I have interviewed each of the contributors and put the interviews up on my blog. By helping others, I help myself and make new friends in the process!

Graveyard Shifts: A Pat Wyatt Novel
Where are you from?
I’m originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but moved out to Jersey a few years ago. I’m not going to say  that I don’t like it here, but it’s no Philly. -Laughs- 

In what genre do you write?
I write anything fiction, and I really like to write about the supernatural! However, I’m really not a big fan of 
zombies…they freak me out. I’m shuttering right now just thinking about them. 

In your own words, what is your book about? If you were not the author and trying to explain this awesome book you just read to a friend, what would you say about it? 
My book is about a woman named Patricia Anne Wyatt (everybody knows her as Pat), who is thrown into a world that she never knew existed. A world full of werewolves, witches and not surprisingly vampires. After she’s persuaded, very quickly I might add, into marrying a man named Samuel Satané, she finds out that he is not what he seems. In fact, she realizes that he wants to suck all the blood out off her body. 
Creepy, right? 
Anyway, Graveyard Shifts is for anyone who enjoys dark humor, suspense and a very sarcastic heroine who a takes everything that happens to her in stride. I’m a big fan of strong, independent female characters, and I would like to think that Pat Wyatt is one of them.

What is your writing style? 
I like to write down everything by hand first. I love the way the ink smells on paper! Then, I will sit and type it all up. I’ll add, subtract and sometimes multiply…you know…if the mood strikes me.
You should see my house! It’s full of journals filled with stories that haven’t been typed up yet. I love it! ;)

Have you ever written anything and thought; " The world has got to see this!" ? 
That’s what I thought about Pat Wyatt. I wanted to share her with the world. And, even though I never think my work is good enough (I’m a perfectionist), I just wanted everyone to know and love her like I do. 

Do you have an editor and Cover Designer or do you do this yourself? 
I edit first, and then I send it off to an editor. Also, last time I used CreateSpace for the cover art. I have to say…I love it! 

Who is your favorite author. 
Sharon Creech taught me how to read, but Jane Austen and Charlaine Harris made me want to write! I love the way all of them take a chunk out of their characters live, and make you feel like you’re actually there. 
It makes me smile just thinking about it. 

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Sad scenes…I can’t write them without crying, and when I cry I can’t see the screen. So, I have to stop, wipe my eyes, tell myself it’s only a story (which never helps) and get it done before I break down completely. It’s tough, but that’s why I love this job. 

Do you write your characters or do they write themselves through you? 

I’d say they write themselves. I’m just the one hearing them tell me the story. We’re like best friends. We gossip about boys/girls, we tell each other our likes and dislikes, and we just love to braid each other’s hair. It may sound crazy, but it’s true!

Do you ever write yourself into the characters? 
Sometimes. Pat has my sarcasm, wit and my temper. But I’d like to think that that all my characters are their own person. 

Is writing your full time job or are you "Keeping your day job"? So to speak.
Writing, right now, is my full time job. I was recently diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, and it has been giving me a really terrible time. One day, when I’m better, I’m going to have to go out into the workforce and try to find a stress free environment (I was thinking a bookstore). But for right now, with my health the way it is, it’s just going to be me and my characters trying to make people laugh, and trying to keep the reader on the edge of their seats. ;)

If you could go back in time and meet one famous person or legend in history, who would it be? 
Just one?! Oh God! Um…It would have to be Jane Austen. I think, if a found in the TARDIS (that’s from Doctor Who for those of you who don’t know), I would probably beg the Doctor to take me to meet her, and I believe we’d become fast friends. At least, that’s what my imagination tells me. 

There are millions of new books released every year. What in your mind makes yours stand out from all those millions in your genre?

Like I said before, she’s a strong woman. But she’s also very quick on the uptake, and I’d like to think she’s different from most heroines. I love characters like that…don’t you?

In the world of Indie, marketing is very difficult, especially if you don't have the funds to pay for it. Have you found a great free way to market your work that you think other Indies will benefit from? 
I’ve found it very difficult to market for free. However, Facebook and Twitter help. You just have to keep updating your statuses and your tweets, and make sure you do it every day. God, I hope that’s good advice.

Someone she will want to trust but shouldn't and is in a constant state of confusion. She does not know what the right choice is and is terrified of failing her entire species. Her parent's risked everything to save Avalon and if she makes one false move according to her legacy, she will undue all that they have accomplished. This time however; it will be permanent. The goddess has given her family one last chance to right their wrongs. 

  Can Karma control her infamous temper or will she succumb to the same fate as her ancestor, Morgaine?

My 5 star review for Lucian's Revenge by Tyler West @authortylerwest



Author Tyler West had me engrossed by the second page. I seriously could not figure out who Lucian was and what he thought he needed revenge against Thomas for. I just kept thinking, Thomas is a good guy. What could he possibly have done to Lucian? Usually, I can figure out the plots in stories rather quickly but in the case of Thomas VS Lucian, I was happily surprise that I could't figure out what was going on. It's rare that any story-line fully surprises me.

I hate giving away too much in my reviews so, I can't say much more but I will tell you that on the second to last page is when I finally figured it all out. I loved that.
